Royal Horse Racing since 1622
It was the nearby village of Exning that was one of the major settlements in this area during Anglo-Saxon and Medieval times.

After Britain was hit by the plague during the 14th, 15th & 16th Centuries, the population of Exning decided to leave their homes to contain the disease and build a new settlement nearby and so 'New'market was born.

Venue to some of the Greatest Races in the history of Horse Racing.

Here, we have prepared a complete journey around the famous Newmarket Rowley Mile Racecourse which is situated on the outskirts of the Town.


There was no racing on the day we visited so we were able to take our pictures from places we would not normally have been allowed. Permission was granted by one Chris Kennedy of the Race Course Office, our thanks to him. We'll be covering a proper race meet at the July Course in the not to distant future. Anyway, we hope you enjoy your visit to one of the most influential Racecourses on the planet...
